The pool is finally up and running!

Le Mas des Lecques is getting better by the day!

Hooray! We’re so excited to let you know that the pool at Le Mas des Lecques is finally up and running!  It’s taken its time, a worldwide lockdown and a lot of energy to pull this off, but we finally have!

Let me tell you the story…

You may recall a previous blog post explaining that the pool was under construction, you can see it here.  I actually wrote it in January 2019, and since then, nothing had really moved on except the garden.  My husband runs a building company and as the saying goes, the cobblers always have the worst shoes… well, since we dug the said hole in the garden, it’s never been the right time to finish our pool! Obviously it’s been a good sign for my husband’s business but on the other hand, having a gaping concrete hole in your garden for 18 months hasn’t been the nicest feature of Le Mas des Lecques, and it’s one of the reasons we couldn’t market it properly.

In fact, it took a worldwide lockdown (and a few villa reservations this summer) to actually force us get our hands dirty and do it ourselves!

And that is exactly what we did.  For the past 4 weeks, we’ve been busy making things happen.  I seriously didn’t believe it would be possible but with a lot of blood, sweat and tears we made it! My husband who is a pool expert got the kids to help us set up the perfect cristalline filter, plumbing and pump room, and I (the “arty” member of the family) actually took enormous pride finishing off the insides of the pool (including making the concrete sides nice and soft) and painting the monster with 3 coats of very sticky paint!

As I write, I still can’t believe it’s true my bones ache and my fingers are super rough, but every time I go past the window, I’m doing a double take to admire the work.  I hope you enjoy the result…

So, If you like it, why don’t you come and book a few days holiday once this pandemic is over?

A few rules for using the pool at Le Mas des Lecques

Whilst I’m at it, I thought this could be the right place to set a few pool rules for our lucky guests (and for your safety):

  1. Please keep an eye on your kids at all times: pools can be deadly, and even if we have installed a pool alarm, it is your responsibility to keep an eye on young children.  The best way to do this is to nominate a responsible adult at all times to be in charge of kids around the pool.  You can take it in turns but that beats any safety equipment, period.
  2. Please do not use glassware around the pool, we will provide nice plastic glasses to sip your apéritifs “au bord de la piscine”
  3. Diving may be a hazard as the pool is only 1,5 meters deep and 6 meters long, so no diving contests, please.
  4. Please respect the neighbors : no pool parties after 10pm

I sincerely hope you will be able to come and enjoy the pool very soon.

In the meantime, stay safe, save lives and stay at home!
