At last, Les Lecques has its own Webcam!
We absolutely love the ocean, and in particular surfing. It may come as a surprise, but it is possible to surf in the Med and we are so fortunate to be a stone’s throw away from one of the best spots in the region. But surfing in the Med is complicated. It takes patience and an opportunistic lifestyle to catch a few waves, so the more timely the info, the better.
Before moving to Les Lecques, we lived further inland. At the time, we would have loved to have live streaming of our favorite beach to check out the surf. Before the invention of Smartphones and Facebook, the only solution we had found was to check the weather forecast sites and log on to our favorite forum “Association Surfer13”. A bunch of friendly locals would post the live conditions and leave us to drool in front of the screen (or to pack our car and speed over to the beach).
The kitesurfing community even tried to connect a video webcam on the lifeguards’ hut in Les Lecques but it never worked properly.
In fact, I personally spent over 2 years volunteering for the website Ocean Surf Report, and posted, as often as possible a photo of the beach and filled in the surf report every day. But I ended up giving this up because I got too many complaints from the local surfers whose waves were getting invaded by surfers from all over the place.
All this to say that St Cyr sur Mer has finally installed a webcam on top the sailing school in Les Lecques. It’s a panoramic 360° snapshot and thanks to our beloved Office du Tourisme, you can get live footage of your favorite beach, where ever you are!
You could also be interested in a few other webcams in the vicinity: like La Ciotat, Sanary and Marseille. Check them out on the Viewsurf website…
